Happy New Year everyone! We're just a few days away from starting our team workouts so I thought I would send a reminder as to when things are happening and a few specifics about how this all works.
Winter workout schedule: 9th/10th graders will practice Mondays/Thursdays at 5:00am at school starting January 9. 11th/12th graders will practice Tuesdays/Fridays at 5:00am at school starting January 10. Our team lifting will take place Tuesdays/Thursdays after school starting January 9. 9th/10th graders start at 4:00pm. 11th/12th graders are immediately after school starting at 3:15. Saturday practices will be determined week by week. We will communicate with the players as to what we are doing on Saturdays, if anything, each week. There will not be practice January 11.
*IF school is not in session during the week due to a holiday, teacher inservice, snow day, etc, we will not have practice in the morning.
** IF school is delayed due to a delayed snow schedule, our practice will be delayed. Standard school delay start time is 90 minutes, so we would start practice at 6:30am.
Enter the school for practices each morning through the athletics entrance on the east side of school.
On day 1 of camp this week - players will be checked in based on their names appearing on the registration list. Registration is through Myschoolbucks. Refer to the Chap Athletics page for team camp sign ups.
Players will also receive their camp tshirt. Team hats are $25 so please bring either cash or checks made out to Chaparral Baseball.
Required clothing - camp shirt and hat every day. Your choice of shorts or sweats. Athletic shoes.
Required gear - standard baseball gear minus cleats.
Storing gear - for anyone who needs space to store your gear during the school day, you are welcome to use my classroom 507L.
Additional practices outside of Chaparral Baseball during winter - We always run into issues with this so I might as well address this now. Extra work outside of what we are doing this winter is great!! Until it interferes with what we are asking you to do when we are asking you to do it. Specifically, arms getting sore due to overuse and/or additional bullpens being thrown outside of our practices. We are training and preparing for our season(opening day for our varsity team is 66 days away) and have put together a program to make sure that our players are ready to go by tryouts Feb 24, 25. Do not put yourself at risk for injury by doing too much too soon. In addition, the evaluation process starts day 1. Be available for every practice, every team lift, and take advantage of every opportunity that you are being given!
Additional practices outside of Chaparral Baseball during the spring season - should not be happening.
Keys to "surviving" the winter - 1. Sleep. 2. Eat SOME food before practice in the mornings, but NOT A BIG breakfast. Have a snack to eat after practice prior to the start of your school day. 3. Get school work done early in the evening so that you can get to bed.
